Questions & Answers

  • In Louisiana, gun ownership is a way of life. Matt believes in the second amendment, and also believes in personal responsibility. We can protect our 2nd Amendment rights while supporting common-sense measures that keep our communities safe. This isn’t about taking rights away; it’s about responsibility and common sense safeguards that help prevent violence while still protecting law-abiding citizens’ rights.

  • The best way to support our military is to use it responsibly. That means no endless wars, no unclear missions, and no putting families through repeated deployments without a defined purpose. Our service members should never be put in harm’s way without a clear mission, a defined objective, and a plan to bring them home.

At the same time, our military has worked diligently to build strong alliances through diplomacy, and that matters. We should be prioritizing those relationships, along with smart national defense, so that military force is truly a last resort, used only when it is necessary to protect American lives and security. Military strength matters, but so does how and when we use it. Supporting our troops means being thoughtful about when we send them into conflict in the first place.

  • Our elections and our policies should be decided by the American people. Period. Outside organizations, foreign or domestic, should not have undue influence over our government or our elections. That means greater transparency in political spending, stronger limits on outside influence, and making sure elected officials are accountable to their constituents, not to any special interest group. This isn’t about one organization; it’s about a principle: our government should reflect the will of the people who live here.

  • Matt believes our tax dollars should come back to our communities — not disappear into wasteful spending, corporate giveaways, or broken systems that leave working people behind. He will fight to make sure public dollars are used to strengthen healthcare, infrastructure, education, jobs, and services that directly improve people’s lives.

  • Families should not have to choose between groceries, rent, medicine, childcare, and basic needs. In Congress, Matt will fight to lower everyday costs, protect consumers from price gouging, and support policies that help working families keep more of what they earn.

  • Every child deserves a strong start, and every parent deserves access to affordable, reliable childcare. Matt supports investing in public schools, expanding access to early childhood education, increasing teacher pay, and making sure teachers, students, and families have the resources they need to succeed.

  • Small businesses are the backbone of Louisiana communities. In Congress, Matt will fight for policies that support local entrepreneurs, create good-paying jobs, invest in rural and underserved areas, and help communities grow from the ground up.

  • Matt supports a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions. He believes that medical decisions should be made by individuals in consultation with their doctors, not politicians. That includes decisions around pregnancy, reproductive healthcare, and family planning. At the same time, he believes that we can reduce the need for difficult decisions by expanding preventative care, maternal health services, and support for families.

  • Matt believes members of the LGBTQ+ community deserve the same rights, protections, and access to care as everyone else. That includes access to medically necessary healthcare, including gender-affirming care, based on the needs of the individual and guidance from their doctor. Everyone should be able to live safely and with dignity, without fear of discrimination.

  • Matt believes the cost of living is one of the biggest challenges families are facing right now. His focus is on strengthening the foundations people rely on; making sure families have access to affordable healthcare, stable housing, a living wage, and reliable childcare. He believes that when people have stability in these areas, it strengthens the workforce, improves quality of life, and creates a more resilient economy overall. Addressing cost of living isn’t about one quick fix, it’s about building systems that allow people to thrive, not just get by.

  • Matt believes healthcare is something all people should have access to, and can actually use. Not something they lose when they change jobs or can’t afford when they need it most. He supports creating a  system where everyone has access to reliable healthcare, prioritizing preventative services, rural healthcare, and mental health support. His focus is on expanding access, stabilizing rural care systems, and making sure individuals can make their own medical decisions in consultation with their doctors.

  • Matt believes that we need both secure borders and a functional immigration system. One that respects the dignity of the people coming here and recognizes their desire to contribute and be productive members of our society. He supports maintaining strong border security while also fixing a system that is currently slow, complicated, and often inaccessible. Matt believes immigration policy should be fair, timely, and affordable, so people can follow the legal process without unnecessary barriers. His goal is a system that is secure, humane, and actually works for families, for the workforce, and for the country as a whole.

  • Economic development should be a fair deal for local communities. Residents should have a voice in major decisions. Public officials should be fully accountable to the people they serve.

That means transparency, environmental and infrastructure impact studies, making sure projects don’t place undue strain on local water, power, or public health, no backroom deals, and no non-disclosure agreements that keep communities in the dark.

Louisiana is rich in natural resources, but for too long, outside companies have extracted wealth from our communities without reinvesting enough back into them. If companies benefit from our resources, they should also contribute to the infrastructure, services, and long-term stability of the communities they rely on.
